A Queensland Surveillance State: What It Means For You
The Surveillance Society is upon us – from all-seeing CCTV to all-knowing data collection by Google, Facebook and other global platforms. Whether it’s Big Brother or Big Data – our privacy is impinged upon in the name of safety and security, and for commerce and convenience.
QCCL’s first event for 2018 confronts the issue of the Surveillance Society. Privacy Commissioner Mr Phil Green will feature in a panel discussion with other guest speakers, including Liam Pomfret from the Australian Privacy Foundation and visiting QUT and University of Oslo academic Samson Esayas.
So please join us for a lively panel discussion and audience Q & A that will cover topics such as:
- proposals for smart cameras that record sound
- data collection and mining
- consumer privacy
- facial recognition and other emerging technologies
… and of course, how these impact our civil liberties.
